Falcao to join up with Colombia squad despite World Cup KO rumours

Wednesday, May 21, 2014 by Goal.com

The 27-year-old forward has not played since suffering cruciate ligament damage in January but remains in Jose Pekerman's thinking for Brazil - at least for now

Radamel Falcao will travel to Colombia's training camp in Argentina next week, despite reports that the striker is poised to rule himself out of the World Cup.

The Monaco ace suffered cruciate ligament damage during a Coupe de France match in January and it has been claimed that the 27-year-old has admitted defeat in his bid to be fit to represent his country in Brazil this summer.

However, Colombia issued a press release on Monday revealing that Falcao, who took part in squad training with his club at the end of the campaign, is still trying to prove his fitness to coach Jose Pekerman.

"Radamel Falcao Garcia will join his team-mates in Buenos Aires," the statement read.

"The Colombian striker is currently continuing his physical work with his club side Monaco."

Pekerman must trim his 29-strong provisional squad to 23 players before June 2 and it has been reported that if Falcao misses out, the forward will join Colombia's coaching staff.
