Del Bosque: 'I didn't know Villa was quitting Spain'

Tuesday, June 24, 2014 by Talksport

Vicente del Bosque has revealed he didn’t know David Villa was quitting international football!

The Spain boss substituted the striker during the 3-0 win over Australia, and the 32-year-old was then pictured in tears on the bench.

Villa is heading for the MLS to play for New York City, but Del Bosque insists he knew nothing of his decision to end his career with Spain.

He said: “He [Villa] certainly seemed very annoyed [when he was taken off]. He said it was his last game, but I didn't know that.

"I'm sure he was upset. All I was thinking about is that it was time to kill off the game and we did that."
