Chicharito focused on important win for Mexico
Wednesday, March 27, 2013 by YAHOO SportJavier “Chicharito” Hernandez netted twice last Friday against Honduras to make it 30 goals for El Tri, surpassing Hugo Sanchez’s haul of 29, but all that is in the past and the Manchester United striker just wants three points against the United States Tuesday night.
“I never like to talk about the goals, what is important for me and my teammates are the results,” Hernandez told the press after training on Monday.
He added: “In our minds is only the game tomorrow (Tuesday), to try and win and pick up the three points that are very important to qualify for the World Cup.”
The 24-year-old believes the game against the United States will be a difficult challenge and seems to have a lot of respect for the Stars and Stripes.
“They are a great national team, but we are focused on our team and doing what the coaching staff ask of us,” explained Hernandez.
Chicharito also confirmed that he came off in the 65th minute against Honduras because of a small “knock” and that he is fit to play in the showdown in Mexico City.
While sections of the media in Mexico build up the US vs. Mexico rivalry, Hernandez was keen to downplay the ferocity of it and instead maintained that for El Tri it is all about getting a win after picking up just two points from their first two games in the Hexagonal phase of World Cup qualifying.
