You're in good Kompany! City's nice guy buys into doomed Belgian third division side... and you can get involved too
Friday, March 29, 2013 by DailymailAs well as putting his weight behind Manchester City's strenuous attempts to retain the Premier League title, defender Vincent Kompany has decided to buy into struggling Belgian third division side FC Bleid.
With just two wins in their 28 D3B games this season, the Brussels club sit rock bottom of the division and 16 points from safety, but Kompany sees the investment as a social project as well as a footballing one.
In a rousing statement posted on the club's new website
WeStartFromScratch.com, the 26-year-old outlined his reasons for buying into the outfit and his plans to bring the club forward for the good of the region.

And Kompany encouraged ordinary members of the public, whether fans of the club or not, to come forward and put their ideas towards the project, beginning with suggestions for a new club name.

Kompany, who grew up in Brussels, said: 'It is my sports’ and social commitment towards the youngsters of Brussels.
'The youth of Brussels, in all its municipalities, is a truly multi coloured mix and
I strongly believe in its qualities and potential that are at present written off much too quickly.
'I’m one of them and I know that with the effort in the right place they’re capable of anything... if they’re given the chance.'
The defender is not alone in his investment, and is adamant that he will remain focused on his job at Eastlands and with the Belgium national side.
'I need all my time and focus in Manchester and with the Belgian National team.
This Brussels story is going to be written by a team of professional staff under my sister. They know me through and through and can put my vision into practice.
'To maximise opportunities we want to put a lot of effort into the staffing so that youngsters not only learn the right way to play a sport but are also supported in the social aspect of their (often complex) lives.
Kompany made it clear that the wider social aspects of the club are at the forefront of his mind, with the club looking doomed to relegation to the fourth tier of Belgian football.
'This project has to be more than a club where its members simply kick a ball around.
'The club has to be carried by the fans, the present and future ones. They have to become the beating heart of the club.
'And we don’t have time to wait. I’m giving a call to arms for everyone: let’s start thinking today of a name for the club.'
It is not yet known how much weight in cash Kompany has put behind FC Bleid, or how much hands-on time he will spend on the club.
