Giovani dos Santos ready to return against Jamaica

Wednesday, June 05, 2013 by YAHOO Sport

Mexico coach Jose Manuel “Chepo” de la Torre has received a welcome boost with the news Giovani Dos Santos is fit and ready to go in Tuesday's vital World Cup qualification match against Jamaica in Kingston.

“He’s ready to play and in great spirits, the same as all the rest,” stated De la Torre in Monday’s press conference in Jamaica.

But the Mexico coach was not guaranteeing that the Mallorca player - the subject of a major tug-of-war between club and country over the last week – will be in the starting XI to face the Reggae Boyz.

More good news for Chepo came with the announcement that Hector Moreno is also back in contention after recovering from a hamstring strain.

That means Chepo will have a full squad to choose from as El Tri looks for its first win of 2013, although the coach does not believe the media and fans’ insistence that Mexico must win is affecting his players.

“We put the pressure on ourselves to win all games, wherever they may be, against whoever they may be,” added the former Chivas coach.

Mexico currently sits in fifth place in the Hexagonal, but could move into first position with a win against Jamaica.
