Azpilicueta hoping for Spain chances

Tuesday, September 24, 2013 by Goal.com

The Spanish right-back has only appeared once for Chelsea this season, but promises to work hard as he looks to add to his four caps for La Roja ahead of the World Cup

Chelsea full-back Cesar Azpilicueta is keen to work hard and add to his four Spain appearances ahead of next summer's World Cup.

The 24-year-old has seen limited first-team opportunities at Stamford Bridge this season with just one substitute appearance to his name.

Jose Mourinho has preferred Branislav Ivanovic, Gary Cahill, John Terry and Ashley Cole this season, but Azpilicueta is hoping a chance in the Capital One Cup can help force his way into his manager's plans and, in turn, those of Vicente del Bosque.

"I'm an ambitious player and I work hard to achieve my goals," he told FIFA.com.
"The national team has an abundance of talent in every position and competition is fierce, so it's difficult to establish yourself.

"I'm being called up regularly at the moment and my aim is to keep it that way. Taking part in the competition would be fantastic for me: it's the pinnacle of any footballer's career.

"I have great memories of playing at the Maracana in the Confederations Cup and now I'm hoping to go back there."
