Sneijder and De Jong recalled by Netherlands

Thursday, September 26, 2013 by YAHOO Sport

Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal has recalled Wesley Sneijder and Nigel de Jong to his preliminary squad for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers against Hungary and Turkey.

The Galatasaray and AC Milan midfielders had fallen out of favor with Oranje in recent times, with Sneijder only called upon as a replacement for the injured Georginio Wijnaldum and De Jong returning after almost a year in international exile.

Also returning to the setup is Paris Saint-Germain fullback Gregory van der Wiel, who has not represented his country since the friendly with Belgium in Aug. 2012.

Despite a current groin injury, captain Robin van Persie has also been selected, as well as fellow key players Arjen Robben and Kevin Strootman.

Full squad:

Goalkeepers: Tim Krul (Newcastle United), Michel Vorm (Swansea City), Jeroen Zoet (PSV).

Defence: Daley Blind (Ajax), Jeffrey Bruma (PSV), Daryl Janmaat, Bruno Martins Indi, Stefan de Vrij (Feyenoord), Paul Verhaegh (FC Augsburg), Ron Vlaar (Aston Villa), Gregory van der Wiel (Paris Saint-Germain), Jetro Willems (PSV).

Midfield: Jordy Clasie (Feyenoord), Jonathan de Guzman (Swansea City), Nigel de Jong (AC Milan), Stijn Schaars (PSV), Wesley Sneijder (Galatasaray), Kevin Strootman (AS Roma), Rafael van der Vaart (HSV)

Attack: Dirk Kuyt (Fenerbahce), Jeremain Lens (Dinamo Kiev), Robin van Persie (Manchester United), Arjen Robben (Bayern Munich), Ruben Schaken (Feyenoord), Ricky van Wolfswinkel (Norwich City).
