Less than six months after taking over Wembley for the first Champions League final between two Bundesliga teams, the Germans appear to be less interested in a friendly against England.

Fans from Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund invaded London in May but fewer than a thousand tickets have been sold to Germany supporters for next week’s international between these famous old rivals.

The closing game in a year of celebration to mark the FA’s 150th anniversary will be a contrast to the summer friendlies against the Republic of Ireland and Scotland and last month’s World Cup qualifier against Poland when England’s opponents were cheered on by huge numbers.

Nearly 20,000 Poles helped make for a terrific atmosphere, although there were fines issued by FIFA on Wednesday to both the FA and their Polish counterparts for crowd behaviour on the night.

The Polish FA have been fined £20,500 because their fans lit and threw flares and one person invaded the pitch and the FA have been fined nearly £7,000 because it was their venue and they were ultimately responsible for security.

Tuesday’s game against Germany will not have such an intense rivalry within the stadium but England still expect a crowd of more than 80,000 for their final game of the year.

Around 60,000 are predicted for Friday’s game against Chile, when tickets will be available until the day of the game.

It could be the lowest Wembley crowd of the year for Roy Hodgson’s team but if these forecasts are accurate it will mean around 620,000 tickets have been sold to watch eight England home games in 2013.
