It's in the can! Messi, RVP, Wilshere and Co get in the carnival mood to film Pepsi's interactive World Cup advert

Thursday, April 03, 2014 by Dailymail

As the World Cup draws closer, expect to see ever more footballers gracing your television sets baring products from Brazilian locations - although few can boast the same array of world class talent as Pepsi MAX.

The soft drinks company has teamed up with Lionel Messi, Robin van Persie, Jack Wilshere, Sergio Aguero, Sergio Ramos and David Luiz for an interactive advert set around the streets of Rio de Janiero that will be aired in 100 countries around the world.

The admittedly thin storyline follows a youngster, also known as 'digital beat sensation Stony', around the famous city while he brushes shoulders with elite footballers and rising songstress Janelle Monae before returning to a fiesta on the dirt pitch he began his 'journey'.

Good read? Lionel Messi is one of many world class stars feature in Pepsi MAX's 'Now is what you make it' ad

Armed only with a can of Pepsi and pair of drumsticks, Stony interrupts Messi's morning read, conjures a tune from Aguero and Luiz's bottles, fails in a kickabout with Wilshere and abandons his ball with Ramos.

He also spares some change for Monae who is seen busking while singing the advert's anthem, Heroes by David Bowie.

Argentina Captain Leo Messi commented: 'Pepsi celebrates the passion and energy of football fans. It is a mesmerizing anthem, uniting us all – on the street or on a pitch – in a celebration of the moment.'

'I was honored to join Pepsi for this campaign and remind people that now more than ever, we can all be heroes,' added Monae.
