Suarez 'would make me crazy' - Gullit

02/07/2014 from:SNTV

Intro:

Former Netherlands international Ruud Gullit talks about the World Cup so far.

Script:

Luis Suarez biting Giorgio Chiellini is one of the most shocking World Cup moments since this man's teammate Frank Rijkaard spat at Rudi Voller in 1990, we asked Ruud Gullit how the two incidents compare.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ruud Gullit, Former Netherlands international (comparing Luis Suarez biting Giorgio Chiellini and Frank Rijkaard spitting at Rudi Voller in 1990):

"Any misconduct is bad. Suarez did it four times already, that is against him, so it's like an issue. The worst part I saw in the report was the fact that he denied it, said he fell on his shoulder and that is the reason why they punished him. If he had some remorse towards the incident I think they would be milder with him but I would go crazy if I was the coach of Uruguay because you ask him afterwards what he did and apparently he said "No, I didn't do anything." If you're then going to admit that you did it because you want to have a transfer, that is bad. That would make me crazy."

Aside from the bite Gullit has enjoyed the World Cup and especially his old team.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ruud Gullit, Former Netherlands international (on Netherlands):

"I think that they were surprised by the first match against Spain. Everyone was like, "Oh my god, what happened there?" You could be easily two nil down, it didn't happen. You score an unbelievable goal with (Robin) van Persie and then it rolls like a snowball. We didn't play well in the last game against Mexico. Mainly because of the coach against Mexico, he took the wrong people out, he had no strikers out, the ball was coming back all the time. Eventually with the quality we have, there are coming opportunities. Next game is going to be different but they have the belief and that's the most important thing."

Costa Rica will try and test that belief in Salvador, Gullit will no doubt be watching closely.
