August Rosenmeier wins the FIFA Interactive World Cup

August Rosenmeier won the inaugural FIFA Interactive World Cup title for Denmark after beating David Bytheway of England 3-1 in Rio de Janeiro on Thursday (3rd July).

Script:

It was a rest day for teams at the World Cup in Brazil on Thursday but for virtual footballers, it was the Grand Final day of the FIFA Interactive World Cup 2014.

England's David Bytheway met the Dane August Rosenmeier in the final.

Bytheway played with Germany while Rosenmeier, competiting in his third consecutive Grand Final chose the host country Brazil.

The Englishman took the early lead through a Marco Reus header, but Rosenmeier managed to draw level from an Alexandre Pato goal before half-time.

The second-half belonged to the Dane, as Luiz Gustavo scored a free header from a corner before Neymar's goal to secure the 3-1 victory.

Rosenmeier won the title for the first time for Denmark and he received the trophy from special guest Ronaldo.

The Dane also won a cheque for 20,000 US dollars and will travel to the Ballon d'Or to rub shoulders with the world's best footballers.

The Interactive World Cup is recognised by Guinness World Records as the world's largest online gaming tournament and more than five million players have taken part since 2009.
