Argentina fans were in fine voice as they celebrated in Sao Paulo on Wednesday, following their World Cup semi-final win over Holland in a penalty shoot-out.

Chances were far between throughout the 120 minutes played and after Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder saw their spot kicks saved, former Liverpool player Maxi Rodriguez converted the winner.

The nation's last victory in the tournament came in 1986, when the country, inspired by Diego Maradona, won trophy in Mexico.

And one Argentine fan summed up the mood of the nation -

SOUNDBITE (Spanish) Augusto Gustavo Sergio, Argentina fan:

"It's a historical triumph. We'll go to the final in the Maracana, we'll play against Germany and we will win, then we will have won three World Cups"

Argentina will now play Germany in Sunday's final at the Maracana, whilst the Netherlands face Brazil in a third place play-off on Saturday.
