"The FIFA appeal committee has decided to reject the appeals lodged by both the Uruguayan player Luis Suarez and the Uruguayan FA (football association) and to confirm the decision rendered by the FIFA disciplinary committee on 25 June 2014 in its entirety. The terms of the decision taken by the FIFA appeal committee were communicated to the player and the Uruguayan FA this morning, the relevant decision is not yet final and binding, for example an appeal to the Court of Arbitration of Sport, CAS, is still possible."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Delia Fischer, FIFA spokeswoman:

"You all have seen yesterday's statement by Ray Whelan and MATCH that they remain fully cooperative with the ongoing investigation on operation Jules Rimet, in order to pull away the focus of this investigation on the remaining operation of the 2014 FIFA World Cup, Ray Whelan yesterday voluntarily returned his accreditation. FIFA remains cooperative with any investigation to protect the interests of fans that ensures the integrity of the FIFA World Cup, as such FIFA also expects that the law is applied accordingly in case of any wrongdoing."
