The Netherlands held a light training session Thursday (10 July) in Sao Paulo, Brazil, after their World Cup semi-final defeat to Argentina.

Script:

The Netherlands held Argentina to a scoreless draw after extra time in their World Cup semi-final on Wednesday night.

However they were unable to come out on top in the penalty lottery losing 4-2.

It was the second time the Netherlands went to penalties having overcome Costa Rica in the quarter-final thanks to Tim Krul's heroics.

Defender Ron Vlaar and midfielder Wesley Sneijder missed in the shoot-out, and when Maxi Rodriguez converted his penalty, the Dutch were condemned to the consolation of a third place play-off.

They will face hosts Brazil, after they were humiliated 7-1 by Germany in the semi-finals.

The venue will be the capital of Brasilia and the match is sure to face heightened security with angry fans likely to target their national team following the embarassment of the semi-final defeat.

The match will also be the last time Louis Van Gaal takes charge of the national team before he takes up his position with Manchester United.
