Extra security is put in place around Rio de Janeiro's Maracana stadium on Saturday (July 12) ahead of the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina.
As the world prepares to sit down and enjoy the spectacle of the World Cup final between Germany and Argentina, Rio de Janeiro is undergoing final preparations.
Extra security was moved into place around the Maracana stadium on Saturday.
As metal barriers were layed out, fans gathered to take photos in front of the historical stadium as it gets ready to host its second World Cup final following that of 1950.
Argentina fans outside the Maracana were confident of victory against Germany, and many have travelled to Brazil to support their national team despite not having tickets.
Soldiers and police were also a visible presence along Copacabana beach, as many fans were expected to head to the Fan Fest zone to watch both the third place final and the showpiece itself.
One local resident, voiced her positive of security saying that she felt a lot safer in the city since the tournament had started.
