The teams are currently one a piece in finals with Argentina triumphing 3-2 in Mexico City in 1986 thanks to spectacular tournament from Diego Maradona.

West Germany got their revenge four years later in 1990. An Andreas Brehme penalty proving the difference between the sides at Stadio Olimpico in Rome 24 years ago.

In order to protect the pitch at the Maracana, Vasco da Gama's Estadio Sao Januario was used as the venue for Germany´s final training session ahead of the World Cup final.

Joachim Loew has no fresh injury concerns for the game, with the line up that started in the 7-1 mauling over Brazil expected to take the field against Argentina.

Germany are bidding for their fourth World Cup trophy - which would move them level with Italy.
