Celebrate the World Cup with gems made from Pele's hair
Friday, May 30, 2014 by Sporting NewsEdson Arantes do Nacimento, better known as Pele, is the greatest soccer player of all-time. He has scored more goals than anybody in the history of soccer.
In honor of the 2014 World Cup in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, the Brazilian icon is offering fans around the world the chance to purchase a piece of himself in gemstone form.
Yes, that's right, Pele hair gems.
Infinite Brightness (Brilho Infinito), part of the Altstut Group, makes diamonds produced from the carbon found in strands of human hair, by mammalian or bird feathers. In this specific case, from the hair of Pele, with the proceeds going to Pequeno Principe, the largest pediatric center in Brazil.
The 1,283 gems represent the total number of goals scored throughout his entire career, which still stands as an official Guinness world record.
It is still unclear how much each gem will cost, but based on the prices of Infinite Brightness's other gems, they will be somewhere in excess of $4,000.
