Samir Nasri resigned to watching the World Cup on TV as Manchester City star accepts he's unlikely to get France call-up

Monday, May 12, 2014 by Dailymail

Manchester City star Samir Nasri says he is resigned to missing out on the World Cup having fallen out of favour with France boss Didier Deschamps.

Nasri has been a key man for the Premier League champions this season and scored the first goal in the 2-0 win over West Ham on Sunday that confirmed their title victory.

But as far as Deschamps is concerned, the 26-year-old who's amassed 41 caps for the national team since 2007 is likely to be surplus to requirements for Brazil.

On a high: Nasri celebrates scoring the opener in City's 2-0 win over West Ham

'I think the dye is cast. I respect [Didier Deschamps'] choice. I'll watch the World Cup on TV,' Nasri told Canal+.

'If starting games in a club like Manchester City and winning two titles isn't enough, too bad, I won't regret anything.'

Nasri has the backing of his City boss Manuel Pellegrini, who says it will be a big mistake if he's left out of the line-up that will contest group E against Honduras, Ecuador and Switzerland.

Overlooked: Nasri is out of favour with France's national team head coach Didier Deschamps

Deschamps axed Nasri from his last squad in February for a friendly against Holland after he disappointed in the first leg of their qualifier against Ukraine.

But his man-of-the-match performance on Sunday and sustained performances over the season for Pellegrini should be hard to ignore.

'The manager of France hasn't said about the list, but I can't believe Samir Nasri won't be in it because he was one of the best players in the Premier League and very important for our squad,' Pellegrini said.

'It will be an important mistake if he doesn't play in the World Cup.'
