Ecuador vs France preview - France hungry for more success
Wednesday, June 25, 2014 by PAFrance's players are determined to keep their foot to the floor in the World Cup.
Les Bleus' sparkling start to the tournament has numbed the memories of their meltdown in 2010 and even brought back recollections of when they won the trophy on home soil in 1998.
They face Ecuador in their final group match on Wednesday and even if they are beaten - which appears unlikely - they should still top the table.
According to Newcastle full-back Mathieu Debuchy, though, losing is not an option.
"We need to avoid taking our foot off the gas even if there is not a huge amount at stake," he said.
"We want to win this match and maintain our positive dynamic in order to prepare well for what is to come."
France have been free-scoring so far and Debuchy is enjoying the positive mindset of Didier Deschamps' side.
"The thing I love is our attacking play, it's great to be part of it," he added.
"It is great to play in this side as we have taken a huge step forward.
"I want to play against Ecuador but it could be a good chance to get other players involved - that is up to the coach to decide."
For Ecuador things are not quite as certain.
Second to France on three points, they head Switzerland on goal difference alone and if they lose are likely to be going home.
Defender Frickson Erazo and midfielder Christian Noboa are preparing to be called in for overtime in their defensive duties in their final Group E match in Rio de Janeiro.
"The way to read it is that we're going to have a lot of work in defence," said Erazo, acknowledging the effort that awaits his side.
Ecuador's hopes are likely to rest on the form of leading scorer Enner Valencia and he knows that his side need to start from the back.
"They're going to be very difficult opponents, we know France's strengths but we're going to have to take care if we want to hurt them," he said on www.fifa.com.
