Spain launch bid for chart domination with World Cup song starring Diego Costa, Xavi and Cesar Azpilicueta
Friday, May 02, 2014 by DailymailWith just over 40 days to go until the World Cup in Brazil, the slow trickle of national team songs is turning into a hit parade.
Defending champions Spain are the latest to launch their bid for chart domination with a tune called 'Buena Energia' ('Good Energy'), and some leading members of the squad lend a hand.
Diego Costa features with a cameo on the bongos, Xavi has a good bash on the drums and Iker Casillas picks up the tambourine in the video.
Loving life: Xavi seems to be enjoying his go on the drums during Spain's official World Cup song
Bongo man: Diego Costa keeps the rhythm for Spanish band Maldita Nerea in the video
Backing group: Iker Casillas, Jordi Alba and Cesar Azpilicueta clap along with tambourines in the background
Musicians Maldita Nerea are behind the 'effort' and it's fair to say it won't take a place in the pantheon of great World Cup tracks.
Pictured training alongside Chelsea defender Cesar Azpilicueta and Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba, Xavi, Casillas and Costa are seen practising their trademark flicks and skills.
They then find themselves at a Maldita Nerea gig where, surprise surprise, they're invited on stage as the backing band while dozens of adoring fans dance around.
Xavi isn't exactly Keith Moon but he seems to be loving his new role as drummer, while Costa keeps the beat on the bongo.
Big gig: The quintet of Spanish stars walk into the arena
Adored: They're soon joined by dozens of clapping Spain fans
Oddly, the whole thing is sponsored by green energy firm Iberdrola, which explains the song's name and the images of wind turbines and forests on the big screen behind the stage.
Spain are bidding to continue their dominance of international football out in Brazil. The team won the World Cup back in 2010 and have also won the last two European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
