Louis van Gaal's the Netherlands squad trained on Wednesday (2nd July), a day after it was confirmed that midfielder Nigel de Jong would miss the rest of the World Cup through injury.
Script:
The Netherlands trained on Wednesday, without the injured Nigel de Jong ahead of their World Cup quarter-final against Costa Rica.
The midfielder was substituted after only 10 minutes of Netherlands' second round win over Mexico on Sunday and it was confirmed on Tuesday that he will miss the remainder of the World Cup with a groin injury.
De Jong was present at training on Wednesday and watched his team mates from the sidelines with an ice pack strapped to his right leg.
Louis van Gaal has altered his system and personnel a number of times during the tournament - but he is expected to play either Daley Blind or Jordy Clasie in de Jong's place in the quarter-final.
Bruno Martins Indi may also start, after recovering from his head injury against Australia in the group stages.
Although Wesley Sneijder and Arjen Robben trained separately at points on Wednesday, neither is thought to be carrying an injury.
Holland travel to Salvador on Thursday before taking on Costa Rica in their quarter-final on Saturday.
