But a seven-year-old boy in the northeastern state of Alagoas must have broken a record.
His father, a fan of the French national team, named his son after not just one, but four French football players and the current Brazil manager.
Zinedine Yazid Zidane Thierry Henry Barthez Eric Felipe Silva Santos's name takes a whole line of his birth certificate, but the boy confesses that he only knows the first three names:
SOUNDBITE (Portuguese) Zinedine Yazid Zidane Thierry Henry Barthez Eric Felipe Silva Santos, football fan:
(Question: What is your name?)
"Yazid Zidane Thierry."
(Question: And what else?)
"I don't know yet. I am still learning it."
Another couple have named their two-month-old baby boy Gabriel Messi.
But the most popular name for baby boys in the 2014 World Cup is surprisingly not Neymar but the Brazilian central defender David Luiz.
Claudio Teixeira, from the registration office in Monte Claro, says he remembers many Diego Maradonas and Arthurs, after Brazilian player Zico.
But he admitted he has never seen so many children named after one player - David Luiz.
