Brazil's star striker Neymar left hospital in Fortaleza on Friday evening on a stretcher, after being ruled out of the World Cup following medical examinations.

The star fractured a vertebrae in his back earlier on Friday, during Brazil's 1-0 quarter-final win over Colombia, when he was kneed in the back by Colombia defender Juan Camilo Zuniga.

Fans gathered outside the hospital, hoping to get an update on the player's medical condition, but couldn't hide their sadness at the injury of their star man.

"It's hard because it's a mixed feeling, it's a moment of joy and one hour later a moment of sadness, willing or not it was our main player. But I think that it's in our difficult time that we will find strength and we will overcome this."
