The pain of losing on penalties in a World Cup semi-final...
Netherlands fans watch their side draw 0-0 with Argentina for 120 tense minutes and that meant one thing.
They reached this stage by beating Costa Rica on penalties, but Louis van Gaal had used all his subs this time so the quarter-final hero Tim Krul could only watch.
It was Argentina's goalkeeper who would snatch the headlines here, he saved penalties from Ron Vlaar and Wesley Sneijder. The South Americans won 4-2.
SOUNDBITE (English) Bart, Dutch fan:
"Very disappointing that you lose the semi finals at penalties, but that is how sport is, win or lose, and now we lose."
They now face Brazil in a third place play-off, the side that beat them was Germany, the final could be a tough watch for Dutch fans.
SOUNDBITE (English) Iris, Dutch fan:
"Right now (I am) for Argentina, Deutschland, Germany, no, they cannot win, they are our enemies!"
The dream of beating their rivals in the final has now gone, some got over it quicker than others.
