Former England captain David Beckham talks about the 2014 World Cup as a whole and reflects on England's "disappointing" performance.

"I think it will be remembered in a real positive way because, I think, the happiness of the people, the happiness of the fans throughout the competition. I think, for me, that's what shows a successful World Cup, a successful competition. I think there's been some suprises, there's been some early exits from some big, big countries, big players."

(about England's elimination at the group stage)

"we were always going to be up against it because we had a difficult group. The fact that we had Italy in the first game - if you don't get off to a good start then you're always up against it and you're always under pressure. I don't think we were the worst team in the group. I think that we were unlucky because I think that we didn't play bad. I thought that we played well, especially in the Italy game and then Uruguay, we performed pretty well but when you come up against an Italian team that has players like (Andrea) Pirlo in it and then you come up against a Uruguayan team with, obviously, Luis Suarez, then that's difficult. So, it's disappointing, obviously, as a nation we always look forward to these World Cups and it's special when the team goes further so it's disappointing with the fans but, from what I've seen, from what I've heard, you know the fans are incredible, throughout the whole tournament, even in the last game when we knew that we were not going through. The fans are incredible and they always travel better than any fans in the world so...It would have been nice for us to go further and, of course, all the players would have been disappointed but I think we've got some great young players coming through and I think what Roy (Hodgson) has done, he's bought them all together and I think the future is bright for the team but, obviously, this World Cup was obviously disappointing."
